The Sheridan County Suicide Prevention Coalition offers training for suicide prevention and intervention and support for survivors of suicide loss.
Operation S.A.V.E.
Operation S.A.V.E. is a training method Veterans Affairs Medical Centers across the country use to prevent suicide among veteran populations. Trainers, however, can alter the one-hour presentation to fit any audience. The training introduces participants to current local and national suicide statistics, suicide warning signs and risk factors, techniques for approaching potentially suicidal people, and techniques for referral to appropriate treatment services. Each session includes a question-and-answer period.
Hope & Healing Support Group
Every person who dies by suicide leaves behind survivors – family and friends left shocked, grieving, and struggling to understand and cope with their heartbreaking loss. Many survivors feel isolated, wondering if anyone else could possibly understand their pain.
If you have lost someone to suicide, you are not alone. Each year, nearly 31,000 people in the United States die by suicide. Millions of survivors, like you, are trying to come to terms with their devastating loss.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (www.afsp.org) offers a comprehensive list of suicide support groups and healing conferences throughout the nation as well as other valuable resources for survivors.
In Sheridan County, the Hope and Healing Support Group, led by a clinical co-facilitator and a non-clinical co-facilitator, offers survivors the chance to meet on a regular basis to work toward recovery.
